Falling film evaporator vs rotovap
Rotovap is also called rotary evaporator. It is a common equipment in the laboratory. It consists of motor, distillation flask, heating pot, condenser tube, etc. It is mainly used for continuous distillation of volatile solvents under reduced pressure. It is used in chemical and biological , biomedical and other fields.
Falling film evaporators are widely used in the evaporation and concentration of evaporative material,water,organic solvent solutions in the pharmaceutical, food, chemical, light industry and other industries. It also can be widely used in the waste treatment of the above industries. Falling film evaporator can evaporate materials with higher concentration and higher viscosity, heat sensitive materials.
The similarities and differences between falling film evaporator and rotovap
The similarities between falling film evaporator and rotovap are as follows:
1. They are both used to concentrate or extract water, organic solvent solutions and other solutions, in order to get substances which are purer or with higher density.
2. They are both widely used in chemical and biological , biomedical and other fields.
The differences between falling film evaporator and rotovap are as follows:
1. They have totally different structures. Falling film evaporator consists of evaporator (heat exchanger), separator, preheater, condenser, condensate tank, circulation pump and other components. It works from the top to the bottom downwards. Rotary evaporator consists of a motor, a distillation flask, a heating pot, a condenser, and so on. It works from the evaporation flask to the receiving flask horizontally.
2. Falling film evaporator is more used in industrial field, but not in food field. However, rotary evaporator is widely used in food field. Besides, rotary evaporator is more used in laboratory, while falling film evaporator is more used in industry.
